Born and raised in Moon Township, Tom graduated from Moon Sr. High School in 1987 and attended Lehigh University. Abandoning a promising future in Engineering, Tom followed his heart and his passion and enrolled in The Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts and completed his externship at the prestigious Ritz Carlton Naples.
Tom spent 4 years at the Ritz engraining the highest levels of both customer service and culinary standards. Tom then moved on to Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers Florida and succeeded at meeting and exceeding the daily demands of an elite club membership. In his pursuit of continued growth, Tom moved on to the position of Executive Chef at "The Terrace Tropical Grille" a small fine dining restaurant on Captiva Island, Florida. Under Tom's tutelage the reputation of the restaurant skyrocketed. Tom and his bride returned to his home and roots in Western Pennsylvania by accepting the position of Executive Chef at "The Country Club" in Meadville, PA. While at the Pennsylvania's oldest private golf club, Tom's no excuses philosophy of customer service continued to develop, and the success of the Food and Beverage component of the club was testament to that.
In 2004 it was back home to the Pittsburgh area as the Executive Chef at "Sunny Ledge Boutique Hotel" in the prestigious Shady Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh. During his year there, Tom raised the cuisine to 3 &fract12; stars in a review by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Next stop, Heinz Field! During the summer of 2005, Tom took on the role of Executive Sous Chef at Heinz Field. After 1 season he accepted the role of Executive Chef. Through 6 seasons of winning football, Tom served almost 3,000 rabid Steeler Fans and 2,000 PITT fans on game days. During those six seasons Tom served through 3 Superbowl runs, 2 Ring Dinners, the NHL Winter Classic, and an MLB All Star Game, all the while elevating the operation to one of the finest and busiest caterers in the city. Tom became PRO CHEF LEVEL II certified and in the summer of 2008 Certified Chef de Cuisine, a certification which he retains today. Tom catered high profile functions such as: The American Ireland Fund Annual Gala (2006-2011), the City Theatre Gala (2006-2011), 2010 Social Fundraiser of the Year, Annual Heart Ball 2007, in addition to numerous other events associated with UPMC. Tom was in high demand and assisted at major events at the Rogers Center in Toronto CA, New Orleans Convention Center, Camden Yards at Oriole Park, and numerous others.
Tom's tenure at Heinz Field came to an end as chose to follow his dream of opening his own restaurant. With the help and vision of his wife Melanie, Savory Hill an eclectic bistro, came to life. Savory Hill is a rich warm place that embraces you like the comforts of home, but with a world class private chef. With Cuisine best described as "New American", Savory Hill offers a selection of traditional favorites with some twists, along with an ever changing feature menu.
